About the City

We wanted to take this opportunity to share some on the beautiful city that is Ventura...
The City of Ventura is located between Malibu and Santa Barbara on the blue Pacific Ocean, overlooking Anacapa and Santa Cruz islands. Ventura was just named one of The 10 Best Places to Live Now, see the Men's Journal article here, March/April 2015 - Start a business, surf on your lunch break, buy your dream home -- here are 10 cities and towns where life is good.

Fun Facts

·         Ventura is officially the City of San Buenaventura (commonly called San Buenaventura before 1891)
·         The nickname "Ventura", according to historians, has its origins in a decision made by the Southern Pacific Railroad about 100 years ago. It was easier to print Ventura on railroad tickets than San Buenaventura

· The original inhabitants of the area were native Chumash people, who called it Shisholop ("In the mud") in the Chumash language

· The movies Swordfish and Little Miss Sunshine were partially filmed in Ventura, as were parts of the movie Erin Brockovich

· Ventura was fictionalized as 'Madison City' by long-time resident Erle Stanley Gardner in his 'D.A.' Series of crime novels featuring Doug Selby, crusading District Attorney of a rural California county

· Ventura hosts five college campuses, the Brooks Institute of Photography, Ventura College of Law, Southern California Institute of Law, Santa Barbara Business College and Ventura College

· Ventura is famed for the quality and frequency of the surfing conditions at spots such as Surfer's Point at Ventura County Fairgrounds

· Downtown's Majestic Ventura Theater is an early 20th-century landmark. A venue for concerts, it has seen performances from legendary artists such as The Doors, Pearl Jam, Van Halen, X, Ray Charles, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Social Distortion, Bad Religion, Fugazi, Incubus, Tom Petty, They Might Be Giants, and Johnny Cash, as well as some of the city's most successful homegrown artists like Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and Army of Freshmen

· One of the most recognizable landmarks in Ventura is "Two Trees" which are two prominent lone trees on a hilltop, visible from most of Ventura

· The famous character, lawyer "Perry Mason", created by Erle Stanley Gardner, had his fictional law practice and did much of his early writing in Downtown Ventura. The building where his law offices were housed, at California and Main Streets bears his name on a state historical marker
