View Water Run-off as Art

Almost everyone considers the sounds of water to be soothing and safe. People fall asleep at the beach to the sounds of the ocean, they install water fountains inside and outside of their homes, and they turn on their noise machines on the bedside table for that lulling sound of falling water. It calms and envelopes babies and seniors and everyone in between. We know of someone who turns on her dishwasher before she goes to sleep at night because she can hear the water whooshing!
When you’re tucked inside and it’s raining outside you might hear the water on the roof. Can you imagine how wonderful it would be if there were a sense of music to that sound? That’s precisely what a rain chain will add when the clouds open up and the water appears. You’ll hear a magical sound you might never have heard before.

Rain chains originated in Japan hundreds of years ago and are traditionally used as decorative downspouts on homes and temples. They are considered both functional and aesthetically pleasing. They came to wider notice after the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano and have been gaining in popularity ever since with homeowners, garden designers and landscapers around the world.

Rain chains guide the rain water run-off from the roof and while it makes its way through the chains, it winds up either on the ground, hopefully using a water run-off management system, or can be deposited into a rain barrel, which will gather the unfiltered water for you to use in any way you like.

Rain chains, while highly functional, can be truly stunning works of art. They are typically made of copper which will, over time, develop a beautiful patina. They come in other materials, as well. The designs run from teacups to flowers to links and all manner of other lovely images. You definitely want to put one where visitors to your home will see it. And you can of course have more than one! You can View A Video of some rain chains here.

We have 11 Five Star Reviews on Yelp!

Here are a few reviews that you can find there.

"Randy's Rain Gutters is a fantastic company for raingutters. Randy (the owner) was prompt and punctual in arriving to give an estimate. He was professional, knowledgable and his prices were reasonable.

One of the best parts about this company is that Randy is the guy who actually installs the raingutters! You get what was promised because you're always dealing with the owner!
On the day of the installation, there was slight hiccup in that there was an area of the house we had talked about putting raingutters on, but had never made it to the estimate. Since it was his error, Randy had the integrity to absorb the costs of the extra raingutters without charging me.
The installation went smoothly and was done in a timely manner. A few days later, there was a very minor issue with the downspout. Randy came out within a day and fixed the problem. Excellent customer service in that with other installers you sometimes have to chase them down for weeks!
I highly recommend Randy's Raingutters! Now it's time for some rain!"
Troy S.
Moorpark, CA

"Randy is awesome!  Randy came out to my BF's mom's house to fix the down spouts and he did a great job. She was really happy with Randy's work.  He is friendly, efficient, and flexible with matching your schedule.  We would not hesitate to use him again and recommend him to everyone!"
Chris L.
San Francisco, CA

"Randy installed gutters on our guest house and did a fabulous job. The results were perfect, but more importantly he was professional and courteous. He also took the time to share clean out tips with my husband. With his friendly demeanor, professional results and fair pricing I don't hesitate to recommend Randy's Rain Gutters! We were very pleased all around."
Bria D.
San Luis Obispo, CA

"I would like to thank Randy for his honesty on a problem I had on my rain gutters. After explaining how my gutters were overflowing on my second story and how I thought they needed to be cleaned. Settling on a fair price, he decided to start immediately. After about 15 minutes he knocked on my door, and said he found the problem. We went outside and as he was climbing the ladder he explained there was a tennis ball blocking the drain hole. Those gutters must have been full because when he got it out it started gushing water. He explained he checked the rest of the gutters and they were clean. While he was putting things away he said he couldn't charge me for one tennis ball but asked if I would recommend him to family and friends. After the shock wore off I said yes of course. It is nice to know there is a company around who is honest, and not trying to rip you off. So thank you Randy and you will be getting a call from my parents for their house. GREAT JOB!!"
Stephanie L.
Oxnard, CA

"Randy provide a cost estimate over the phone from the description we provided. We were a couple of feet under on our estimate. Randy did an excellent job and spent more time than I thought he expected to, since he not only installed the gutter, but assembled the rain barrel. This was all done at the agreed price he quoted over the phone. We are extremely happy with the professional job, quality of the work, price and he arrived on time. If you need gutter work, I highly recommend Randy's Gutters."

Why You Should Choose a Professional to Install Your Rain Gutters

You see them in the hardware stores, pieces of gutters, and you know that with time you could assemble a functional gutter on your own. So why choose to use a professional to do it? Won't you save yourself money?

Not really.

Using a professional actually saves you money, aggravation, and of course, time. Why? How? I'm glad you asked.
Saving you time
Saving you time is pretty obvious. First you have to figure out which pieces you need, and how much gutter material you need to buy. Naturally you will also need the proper hardware and of course a sturdy work platform, typically in the form of a ladder, to assemble and attach to your roof.
Then, should you miscalculate, you need to go through the hassle of going back to the store to grab what you needed. Ditto if you make a mistake on your materials. And just how long will it take you, especially if you have to do it alone? A day? A weekend?

A professional takes care of all of that for you. The most amount of time you have to spend on the project is the few minutes it takes to call and arrange the installation. After that, your day (or weekend) is all yours.

Saving you money and aggravation

Those leaks contribute to the deterioration of the outside of your house, and if you're unlucky enough to not have a properly sealed house, that extra moisture can get inside and start it's damage there. With a seamless design, those joints are eliminated. No leaks, no potential extra damage, no costly repairs.

That's how you save time and money, that's why you choose the professionals at Randy's Rain Gutters.

Saving you money and aggravation are a little less obvious, though it's true that having someone else doing the work will save you time and some aggravation, this aggravation actually coincides with money.

Good professionals, like Randy's Rain Gutters, do not use the 10' sections that you can buy at the hardware store. The pros use a seamless design. "So what?" you might ask. Well think about it like this: Every 10' you have a joint, after a few years that joint begins to leak. Now you have leaks in your gutter system, every 10 feet.

The Rain Wizard Urn is a thing of beauty and clever design.  Constructed with thick and durable polyethylene resin which holds up to the harshest elements, the exterior has the appearance of a terracotta urn.  The graceful lines, curves, and garnishes on the exterior make it an accent piece on your home’s exterior and not something that just sticks to your house.  The flat back design optimizes space used and allows you to position the barrel close to walls or flat areas.  The top is the only of its kind that not only acts as a planter space, but also features a unique watering system that leeches excess water from the barrel itself.  There is also a channel built into the rim which diverts overflowing water to the front and away from the barrel and home foundation.

You can have piece of mind that you're helping the environment by conserving water and giving your garden the best water it can get, devoid of harsh chemicals and rich in nutrients.  And you can perform that conservation without sacrificing your home's outer appearance with the very stylish and functional Rain Wizard Urn.

  • Made in the USA
  • 1 year Limited Manufacturer's Warranty
The Impressions rain barrel reinvents how you harvest rain water. This 50 gallon Bark design is perfect for virtually any home. The most captivating feature is its appearance which emulates the rough texture of a large tree trunk. With a deep welled top, you can plant an array of floral arrangements or even a small herb or vegetable garden. The top also includes the Good Ideas original, integrated overflow channel. This channel automatically diverts all overflow water to the front of the barrel and keeps your foundation from flooding. The large opening which can be used for 2x3 or 3x4 downspouts is covered with a soft, fine mesh, plastic screen. This screen keeps out heavy debris and insects for your piece of mind. Also included with the barrel are the two, offset spigot locations. Now you can use a 5 gallon bucket or hose simultaneously without issue. Or use the second spigot as an overflow into a second barrel. Who knew you could have so many features in a rain barrel? Impress your friends and neighbors with the Impressions 50 Gallon Bark Rain Saver.

Rain Wizard 50 Stained

  • Made of UV resistant resin.  Will not fade for years.
  • Authentic appearing hoops
  • Linkable to other barrels for increased capacity using separately sold linking kit
  • Resistant to rust, mold, mildew, and rotting
  • High quality brass spigot for hose hook-up + overflow spout
  • Screen to keep out debris, insects, animals, and children
  • 50 gallon capacity
  • Available in FOUR colors: Oak, Khaki, Terra Cotta, Forest Green
  • 1 year Limited Manufacturer's Warranty
When drought sets in and rain is short, rain barrels can provide that precious water you need for your lawn and garden.  The Rain Wizard 50 can provide 50 gallons of pure, unchlorinated water when municipalities declare periods of low water usage.  During heavy rain falls, a typical roof can produce hundreds of gallons of water.  By saving that water, you can reduce your average water usage by up to 40%.  With those kinds of savings, the Rain Wizard can pay for itself in just a few seasons.

The Rain Wizard features an attractive Faux oak barrel design so it naturally fits in with your landscape.  And the wide variety of colors allows you to even further match your barrel to your home and yard without standing out.  Its plastic screen mesh is newly designed to keep out bugs, animals, and debris while still being easy to remove for cleaning and maintenance and is gentle on skin.
A front side overflow keeps water from flooding against your outside wall.  The flat-back design is one of the most convenient features as it allows your barrel to sit right up against your home so you don't have to worry about purchasing excess downspout parts.

These barrels are tough.  While most barrels will crack or become brittle in the winter time, the Rain Wizard will stay strong.  It is still recommended that you drain your barrels when temperatures approach the freezing point.  And if you're looking for the best deal for the planet, be sure to get a Black Rain Wizard; these barrels are made of 100% recycled resin.

Don't forget, you can increase your storage and savings with the Rain Wizard connector kit.

Or boost your pressure and make room for buckets with the Rain Wizard Stand.

** We are offering these rain barrels along with several other styles and sizes. Just ask me and I'll help you find the Rain Barrel that will fit your needs!

Personal Note - My tomatoes thrive and love the un-chemically treated water!

At Last, Decorative Rain Gutters

Gutters. Can you imagine anything more... plain... on a roof than a gutter? Buildings have fancy water faucets, fancy doors, fancy windows, and then there's your plain, average gutter system. Someone really should do something about that, shouldn't they?

So naturally, people have. Here's a few examples of some decorative gutters from around the web. As always when it comes to your gutters, if you would like us to inspect, repair, install, or even replace your gutters with something fancy, just give us a call at (805) 267-6745 and we'll hook you up (every pun intended).

We like seahorses, yes we do. Actually we don't know too many people who don't.

Someone obviously put a lot of effort into this clever adaptation.

Well, that's one way to direct rainwater....

This was the first image we ran across, and it's our favorite.

Have You Considered Rain Chains?

Rain chains (literally "chain-gutter" in Japanese) are an avant garde
alternative to downspouts. They are widely used in Japan and their purpose is to take a common necessity and make it decorative, in other words, to make a water feature out of the rainwater from the gutter to a drain or to a rain barrel.
Rain chains are typically either a series of metal cups that are chained together with a hole in the bottom of each, or vertical chain links. Rain water runs through the gutters and rather than going down the downspout, it goes downward through the rain chain which not only is beautiful, but they can also turn gutter system downspouts into an environmentally friendly water runoff management system reducing soil erosion and water pollution.

Rain Chains by Randy's Rain GuttersThough traditionally made from copper, there is a variety of materials, cup styles, and artistically crafted link styles to choose from. There will always be one to suit your taste and your home architecture. Rain gutter chains are a functional and elegant replacement for conventional downspouts. By replacing your unattractive downspout with a skillfully-crafted rain chain downspout, which looks like a piece of art, it can become a focal point of your home.

The sound of cascading rain water is pleasing to the senses and creates a sense of tranquility. Randy's Rain Gutters can install your rain chains and for the ultimate in water savings, we can have your rain chain drain into your rain barrel.

Randy's Rain Gutters has the knowledge on Rain Barrels in SoCal!

What about rain barrels?

With many areas facing long term drought, a rain barrel may be just the thing for you. Unless you are old enough to remember rain barrels, you may think that they are the latest and greatest craze. In truth, rain barrels are nothing new. They were commonly used for hundreds of years in one form or another well into the 20th century and though not as common now, they have been making a comeback.

What is a rain barrel?

A rain barrel is simply a container that your rain gutters flow into, collecting the water from your roof's runoff. Rain barrels have allowed people to have water "on demand" during any dry seasons and/or a lack of indoor plumbing. In the old days it was wooden barrels or 55-gallon drums, nowadays they have containers specifically made for them.

Should I use a rain barrel?

Rain Barrels save on your water bill, conserve water and will hold up to 55 gallons each. As watering your lawn and garden can be up to 40% of your water use*, they can add up to quite a bit of savings. Plus you can use the water to wash your car and top off your swimming pool.

A rain barrel can save homeowners around 1300 gallons of water during peak summer months*. It also diverts water from storm drains and lessens the impact of runoff to streams. You can use them for watering your lawn and garden and for washing your car.

Where do I get rain barrels?

Randy’s Rain Gutters tries to save you money and with diligent research has found a discount program active in our area! Be Water Wise will reimburse you up to $75 per rain barrel with a limit of four per house. Randy will be happy to provide further information upon request. See SO-Cal Water Smart.

Rain Gutter Maintenance by Randy's Rain Gutters in Camarillo, CA

Here are a few things you should be doing to keep your gutters in tip-top shape:

  • Inspect the gutters for holes, rust, gaps, and pulling away from the building
  • Inspect the hangers and reattach any that have pulled loose.
  • Clean out the downspouts from the bottom, otherwise you may end up packing it in more tightly.
  • Run water into your gutters to spot any backups you may have missed.
Of course if you don't relish the idea of being up on a ladder, Randy's Rain Gutters is always happy to lend you a helping hand. From inspecting and cleaning your gutters to replacing or repairing them, we can eliminate the problems, and the work, for you.
