Gardening with Rainwater

Now that the rain has let up a little bit and you’ve had a chance to walk around on your squishy ground and check out to see how the plants are doing, have you noticed that they seem happier? Plants love rainwater. Why? Because of the ideal pH, lack of “hard water” minerals, additives, and conditioners, and the presence of beneficial nutrients.

In rainwater the pH is typically more acidic, usually between 5 and 7, than that of your regular water. Along with being better for your plants, it’s also better for the soil. And it contains dissolved nitrogen which plants thrive on.

If you think you’ve been doing your eco-friendly best by using grey-water (which is water from a washing machine or your shower or a bathroom sink) you might want to re-think this. It can have a pH as high as 10.5 once it gets to the garden depending on the types of soaps and detergents that you used. Use rainwater to flush out your soil and keep the pH balance in check.

Okay. You get it. But it rained and you didn’t collect any rainwater, so now what? Lucky for you, the rain isn’t done with us yet. You still have time to get a rain barrel or two. Or three. Please take a look at our Rain Barrel options and we know you’ll find a style you like. We’ll even help you through the rebate process.

When we come out to talk to you about the barrels, we’ll be happy to take a look at your rain gutters to make sure they’re operating as they should. If we see a problem we’ll give you an estimate and fix you up on time and on your budget and with our guarantee. We won’t be undersold. No kidding.

And if the rainwater works as well on your plants as we expect it will, you might want to think about showing some of them at the Ventura County Fair this August. Imagine... rainwater sending you home with a blue ribbon!

Please give us a call at 805.267.6745 and speak to a real live person. We offer 24-hour emergency service in case you’ve been a little, um, lax in taking care of your gutters.

We will meet all of your gutter needs from Ojai to Ventura to Oxnard. We are happy to work with you in any way that we can. Just click here for a Free Estimate.

We look forward to hearing from you!
