The Calm Before the Storm

While no one in our beautiful part of the world is expecting a Hurricane Harvey or Hurricane Irma to blow our way, the rains will be coming this year and it’s time to get ready. If you skipped the chance that your spring cleaning would include your rain gutters, you really shouldn’t be putting this off any longer.

If your existing gutters are hanging by a prayer, or some parts seem to be missing, or they’re clogged with errant leaves and all manner of detritus, they won’t be much good to you when the skies open up.  You don’t want to be standing outside your house, maybe in the dead of night, dressed in your yellow slicker and your waders, squinting and looking up at the roof line wondering why the water is coming down the side of your house in torrents. And you absolutely do not want to be on a ladder inspecting the damage. And we can pretty much guarantee that there will be damage to your house if this happens. As we all know, damage is expensive. A whole lot more expensive than, as the cowboys used to say, cutting it off at the pass.

Have you seen those ads recently on TV for gutters that keep the leaves out? We offer them, too! Please Take A Look at our UltraFlo and play the video. This is an option that just might interest you.
And if you’re thinking of sprucing up your house for the holidays, don’t forget the gutters! If they don’t look good, your house won’t look good. We’re happy to talk with you about the working part of your gutters as well as the aesthetic side. As hard as it is to believe, Thanksgiving is right around the corner. (Don’t tell the turkeys.)

We have over 35 “5 Star” reviews on Google and we’re proud of every one of them! Please give us a call at 805.267.6745 and we’ll come out and give you a free estimate on the inspection and even new gutters, if that’s what you have in mind. If we see a problem we’ll give you an estimate and fix you up on time and on your budget and with our guarantee. We won’t be undersold. Hand to heart.
And please make a note that we offer 24-hour emergency service. It wouldn’t hurt to stick our phone number up on your refrigerator.  You just never know.

We will meet all of your needs from Ojai to Ventura to Oxnard. We are happy to work with you in any way that we can. Just click here for a Free Estimate.
We look forward to hearing from you!

If you haven’t yet gone outside and looked up at your roofline, you’ve got to tell us what you’re waiting for! Don’t forget that water damage to your home can be very expensive. And when that damage turns into interior mold, it also becomes extremely dangerous to your health. So just go outside and take a look and see that everything is functioning as it should. Please.

We won’t be undersold, and we won’t consider the job completed until you’re happy and satisfied. Everything in life should be that easy.

Chirp Chirp! Birds in my Gutters?

In North America ornithologists estimate that there are 650 species of birds. That’s a whole lotta birds, so it shouldn’t be that surprising if we find one or more of them nesting in roofline gutters from time to time. Which isn’t exactly where we’d like to see them. We like to watch them fly, and sometimes we like to feed them, and a lot of people get out their binoculars to count and name and track them. But a lovely bird can become a pest if it wants to make your home its own.
There are several suggested ways to stop this from happening before it starts. Because once a bird, either alone or with its friends and family, has selected your house, it’s harder to get him and them out.

You can put up some decoys that might just keep those birds flying over instead of stopping. Scary Eyes – just click to see.

Decorative owls or eagles placed at the top of your house or near the gutters might work. You can also try a product called Scary Eyes which claims some good results.
Think snakes! Put some of the rubber ones in your gutters, but make sure they’re sturdy enough to not get washed away.

You can find bird repellents that don’t harm the birds, but give off a smell that they really don’t like. Once they get a sniff, they’ll be house hunting elsewhere.

Sound emitting devices that work with speakers you place around the roofline. They have a sound that birds can hear, but humans can’t. Birds don’t like the sound at all.

You can use gutter guards or hardware cloth that is like a galvanized steel mesh. You put it over your gutters and wrap it tightly to them with wires. Birds will never get in.

If birds are driving you to distraction, please give us a call at 805.267.6745 and speak to a real live person. We’ll answer your questions and give you a Free Estimate either on the phone, or from our website. Just click Free Estimate. Our goal is to give you the customer service you should expect and that you deserve. We know that you work hard for your money and we won’t quibble with you over a few dollars. That’s not how we do business. We’ll do our very best to take care of all of your needs within your budget.

We offer an aesthetically pleasing and functional solution to both keep birds and critters from making a home in your gutters and make the work of cleaning gutters virtually unnecessary! Our UltraFlo Steel PowderCoated Screen – “No more gutters to climb or clean. UltraFlo offers you the perfect solution to prevent leaves and other debris from clogging your gutters. Strong, 22-gauge galvanized steel with a small hole design and powder coated with "Ultra Coat" snap locks into your gutter and is professionally installed over your existing 5" or 6" gutters. UltraFlo does not lift or penetrate your roof shingles and will handle any rainfall... keeping leaves, pine”

At Randy’s Rain Gutters we stand behind our work. Sadly, there are so many people who don’t enjoy what they do for a living. But we do! And it shows in how we get the job done. We’re on time, on budget, and you get our guarantee.

We will meet all of your needs from Ojai to Ventura to Oxnard. We are happy to work with you in any way that we can. Please give us a call. Your home and its maintenance are probably the largest investment that you have. Take care of it. And we’ll be as nice to the birds as we are to you.

Let’s Make a Deal!

Do you remember the last time you tried to buy a mattress? After some searching you probably found at least one or two that you liked. You fell backwards on them, you bounced on them, you imagined falling into blissful sleep and having wonderful dreams on them, and you checked the price. Just to be safe about not over-paying you then tried to comparison shop. Good luck. Mattress sales are designed to confuse you. Different stores call the models by different names to make that comparison shopping impossible. Big chains like Macy’s have deals with the manufacturers and name the mattresses with special names. You won’t find that name on another mattress at another big chain or store. Smaller mattress stores have big markups that make bargaining almost imperative. It’s all perfectly legal, but it’s no fun.

And when’s the last time you tried to buy a car? After seeing a few dealers you practically have to make up a chart to see what you’re really getting and what you’re paying for it. And should you buy it now or wait? Will you be missing something?

We don’t operate that way. At Randy’s Rain Gutters we value you and your hard-earned money. We will gladly give you a Free Estimate before we come out to look at the job. After we go over every detail with you, whether you want to replace or repair and clean out your gutters, or purchase rain chains or rain barrels, we will come to a price that you will find satisfying. You will not find another company that will do the job that we do for the pricing we offer. We guarantee our prices and the work that we do. We won’t quibble over a few dollars or talk you into anything that you don’t want or need. If we can’t do this, we don’t deserve your business!
At Randy’s Rain Gutters we stand behind our work and we stand behind the working relationship that we look forward to having with you. And should you have any questions or concerns, please give us a call and talk to a real live person! You can reach us at 805.267.6745.
We will meet all of your needs from Ojai to Ventura to Oxnard. We are happy to work with you in any way that we can within your budget. Count on it.

Stay Off the Ladder - Ladder Safety when cleaning gutters!

Before you even think about cleaning out or replacing your home’s gutters by yourself, you might want to think about the safety in climbing up that ladder. Over 90,000 people wind up in emergency rooms every year for ladder-related injuries. No kidding. And more of those injuries were related to gutters than you can count.

From a website that we found, here are some comments about just this situation.

  • Richard Tiedemann writes: Last week I fell about four feet when the ladder slipped, landing on my right side. I had a small concussion, broke four ribs and needed a chest tube, fractured my pelvis and just got home from rehab. Getting around on crutches. I vow to never use an unattended ladder and not to do the high gutters myself. Be safe, be careful, be ever watchful. I could have died or been paralyzed had I landed differently.
  • Sam Donovan writes: Last November the base of the ladder slipped as I was cleaning the 2nd story gutters. First time in 30 years it happened. Still recovering from 7 broken bones.
  • Wayne Kirby writes: Unfortunately my ladder slipped out from under me, and I dislocated my foot and broke my ankle. I consider myself very lucky. I couldn't believe how fast the bottom slipped out and away....no time to react.
  • Joy Leuthard writes: A very close friend's husband, age 64, fell 2 months ago and hit the back of his head causing a hematoma that affected his brain stem. He died the next day. My husband, age 69, fell and only had severe bruising on his back and arm. I am so thankful it wasn’t worse. I’m stunned at how quickly and easy these falls happen - even with seasoned people who have used ladders for years. Don't ever think it will never happen to you.

We understand your desire to get up on that ladder yourself to keep costs down while maintaining your home. But it’s really not worth risking breaking a bone or two or worse. Let us do the job for you. You will not find another company that will do the job that we do for the pricing we offer. We are happy to work with you in any way that we can within your budget. For a Free Estimate just click and you can get started right now!

Water Damage in Oxnard and Ventura Homes

Water seems so... harmless. We drink it and bathe with it and cook with it and swim in it. We feed it to our pets and our plants and gardens and do a million other things with it and most us never even think about it unless there’s either a drought or a deluge. After all, it’s just water. So it’s surprising to realize how much damage water can do. Yep, plain water, left unchecked can ruin your home down to the foundation.

At the top of almost every home maintenance list, is the need to clean out your gutters regularly. Why? Because once rain gutters become clogged they’re not doing their job anymore. The job of a rain gutter is to catch the rain as it falls from your roof and direct it away from the house. Water backup caused by clogged gutters can rot wood gutters and rust those made of sheet metal.

One of the most important things in preventative home maintenance is to keep moisture away from your house. If too much water falls it can seriously damage the siding, create pathways for water to enter your home, and it can cause your home’s foundation to crack. Additionally, your foundation could settle, and the water could crack basement walls. The cost to stabilize, repair, and seal deteriorated foundation walls can easily run from $15,000 to $40,000. Yes, really!

Once water gets into the foundation or walls of your home it can also cause harmful mold and mildew that you may not even see for years. If you’ve ever seen a home improvement television show you’ve undoubtedly seen some eager DIY-er or contractor re-doing a bathroom or basement and as the sledgehammer goes into a wall, the mold appears. It’s both dangerous to your health and the health of your home and can be costly to fix. And look out for termites which are drawn by water!

It’s widely recommended that you have your gutters professionally checked twice a year. We absolutely agree and would be happy to provide this service for you. Please call us at 805.630.6511 to have us come out to your home or contact us for a Free Estimate. We’re delighted to work with you from Ojai to Ventura to Oxnard.

Here at Randy’s Rain Gutters we pride ourselves on keeping your home safe from the elements for you and your family, and on helping you to maintain its structural integrity.  Please give us a call.

View Water Run-off as Art

Almost everyone considers the sounds of water to be soothing and safe. People fall asleep at the beach to the sounds of the ocean, they install water fountains inside and outside of their homes, and they turn on their noise machines on the bedside table for that lulling sound of falling water. It calms and envelopes babies and seniors and everyone in between. We know of someone who turns on her dishwasher before she goes to sleep at night because she can hear the water whooshing!
When you’re tucked inside and it’s raining outside you might hear the water on the roof. Can you imagine how wonderful it would be if there were a sense of music to that sound? That’s precisely what a rain chain will add when the clouds open up and the water appears. You’ll hear a magical sound you might never have heard before.

Rain chains originated in Japan hundreds of years ago and are traditionally used as decorative downspouts on homes and temples. They are considered both functional and aesthetically pleasing. They came to wider notice after the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano and have been gaining in popularity ever since with homeowners, garden designers and landscapers around the world.

Rain chains guide the rain water run-off from the roof and while it makes its way through the chains, it winds up either on the ground, hopefully using a water run-off management system, or can be deposited into a rain barrel, which will gather the unfiltered water for you to use in any way you like.

Rain chains, while highly functional, can be truly stunning works of art. They are typically made of copper which will, over time, develop a beautiful patina. They come in other materials, as well. The designs run from teacups to flowers to links and all manner of other lovely images. You definitely want to put one where visitors to your home will see it. And you can of course have more than one! You can View A Video of some rain chains here.

Please call us at 805.630.6511 to have us come out to your home or contact us for a Free Estimate. We’re delighted to work with you from Ojai to Ventura to Oxnard.

Here at Randy’s Rain Gutters we pride ourselves on keeping your home safe, and on helping you to make it as beautiful as it should be. We’ll help you select the perfect rain chain for your home.

Save Your Rainwater and Save Your Money!

When you think of a rain barrel - if you do - you’ll probably think of a farm or a ranch or maybe something that looks as if it might be a rain barrel at a friend’s house.  Maybe at the front door with a nice plant growing out of the top.  What you probably don’t know is that recorded history shows that rain barrels, in the form of plain clay containers, goes back over 2,000 years.  Since the drought in California has gotten so much attention, and we are still facing a water crisis, this is a good time for you to think about putting some rain barrels at your own home.  They’re more beneficial than you can imagine.  Not only do they help you to save and conserve water as it comes from the sky, but you can get a rebate for installing them!  With a limit of four per house, each barrel will bring in a rebate of $75.  Holy cow!

Every one inch of rain that falls on a roof of 1,000 square feet will cause 600 gallons of water to fall from that roof.  You’ll be able to water your lawn and grow your plants and flowers and vegetables in water that is not chemically treated.  Everything will thrive.  Think of yourself as going back to nature as you enjoy your cost-saving and environmentally-friendly rain barrels.  As an added plus, they’re attractive and we’ll help you choose the ones that most enhance your home.  Please Take A Look  to see some of our great selections.

Additionally, Randy's Rain Gutters makes repairing, buying and installing and cleaning your gutters a one-stop-shop.  We’d be pleased to partner with you in helping to maintain the safety and beauty of your home.  Your home may be the most valuable property asset that you have.  To set up a free estimate to discuss all of your needs and concerns, just click here.  Free Estimate.

There’s no question that you want to keep your home in good condition.  So please contact Randy's Rain Gutters today to learn about all that we can do for you!

About the City

We wanted to take this opportunity to share some on the beautiful city that is Fillmore...

The City of Fillmore is a small town in the Santa Clara River Valley below the San Cayetano Mountain peak in the Los Padres National Forest. Fillmore is within a historic Ventura County agricultural and tree-farming belt. Sespe Condor Sanctuary, where the critically endangered California condor is recovering, lies to the north.

Fun Facts

  • This region experiences warm (but not hot) and dry summers, with no average monthly temperatures above 71.6 °F
  • The Fillmore Historic Park has the restored 1887 train depot, a fully operational 90-foot-foot train turntable, and a 1956 Southern Pacific railroad car
  • Fillmore has a classic "turn of the 20th century" downtown architecture
  • The well-preserved downtown Fillmore is a popular filming location for television and movies
  • It is considered by many to be "The Last Best Small Town In Southen California"
  • Telephone operators in Fillmore (notably Lauise Gipe) saved the lives of many when in 1928 the St. Francis Dam collapsed until the rising floodwater forced their retreat
  • Fillmore still wishes to retain the small town image

About the City

We wanted to take this opportunity to share some on the beautiful city that is Ojai...

The City of Ojai is located in the Ojai Valley, northwest of Los Angeles and east of Santa Barbara, surrounded by hills and mountains. Ojai is a tourism destination with boutique hotels and recreation opportunities including hiking, spiritual retreats, and a farmers' market on Sundays. Chain stores are prohibited by Ojai city law to encourage local small business development and keep the town unique.

Fun Facts

  • The city's self-styled nickname is "Shangri-La" referencing the natural beauty of this health-and-spirituality-focused region
  • While there are no known references, it is commonly claimed that the mountains visible from the city were used, but then cut, from the 1937 movie as the mystical sanctuary of James Hilton's novel Lost Horizon
  • The benign climate has fostered subcultures devoted to driving and exhibiting classic cars and there are several motorcycle clubs that regularly tour through Ojai as well
  • The Ojai Music Festival is an annual festival of performances by some of the world's top musicians and composers
  • Ojai is the setting for the 2010 comedy film Easy A (much of which was shot on location)
  • The title characters of TV series The Bionic Woman and The Six Million Dollar Man (Jaime Sommers and Steve Austin) are described in the series as having been childhood sweethearts in Ojai, and a number of episodes from both series take place in Ojai and its vicinity
  • The Psych episode “Neil Simon's Lover's Retreat” was set primarily in Ojai, where Shawn and Juliet are having a romantic weekend
  • Annually, in early April, the town hosts a bicycle race that draws professional and amateur teams from around the country
  • In early June, often coinciding with the Music Festival, the Ojai Wine Festival is held at Lake Casitas. Over 3,000 wine lovers sample the products of over 30 wineries. Proceeds go to charity

About the City

We wanted to take this opportunity to share some on the beautiful city that is Oxnard...
The City of Oxnard lies along the coast of Southern California, approximately 30 miles west of Los Angeles, CA. Oxnard is a major transportation hub in Southern California, with Amtrak, Union Pacific, Metrolink, Greyhound, and Intercalifornia all stopping in Oxnard. Oxnard also has a small regional airport called Oxnard Airport (OXR).

Fun Facts

  • Henry T. Oxnard, founder of today's Moorhead, Minnesota-based American Crystal Sugar Company, was enticed to build a $2 million factory on the plain inland from Port Hueneme. Shortly after the 1897 beet campaign, a new town emerged, now commemorated on the National Register of Historic Places as the Henry T. Oxnard Historic District. Oxnard intended to name the settlement after the Greek word for "sugar", zachari, but frustrated by bureaucracy, named it after himself
  • Ironically, the Oxnard brothers never lived in their namesake city
  • Oxnard is one of the key manufacturing centers in the Greater Los Angeles Area
  • The Dallas Cowboys held their pre-season training camp at River Ridge Field in Oxnard in 2001, 2004–06, 2008–10 and 2012-2014
  • Oxnard is served on the collegiate level by Oxnard College and nearby California State University Channel Islands. Additionally, California Lutheran University, California State University, Northridge, ITT, University of Phoenix, University of California, Santa Barbara, and Azusa Pacific University have satellite campuses in Oxnard
  • The Port of Hueneme is located south of Oxnard in the city of Port Hueneme and is jointly operated by the United States Navy and the Oxnard Harbor District
  • César Chávez: Farm worker, political activist and union leader, lived in the Colonia area of Oxnard during his childhood
  • William Soo Hoo: Elected as mayor of Oxnard in 1966-70 and considered the first Chinese-American political leader of a major California city[70] and possibly the United States
  • Sonny Bono & Cher, actors, singers, had a beach house in Oxnard Shores, Oxnard

About the City

We wanted to take this opportunity to share some on the beautiful city that is Thousand Oaks...

The City of Thousand Oaks is a premiere community recognized for being one of the most desirable places in all of California to live, work, recreate, and raise a family. Located in between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara in Ventura County, Thousand Oaks is nestled against the Santa Monica Mountains and with over 15,000 acres of natural publicly owned open space located within the City’s boundaries. The City is 56 sq miles with a population of 129,349.

The City prides itself on its open space with 75 miles of trails for hiking, biking, or just leisurely walking. While this natural acreage gives our community the best of nature, another source of pride is the Civic Arts Plaza. Opened in 1994, this jewel of cultural arts has become a beacon for our region featuring world-class entertainment, musicals, concerts, children’s shows, ballets, and much more. Another world class event that City is proud to be a part of is the Amgen Tour of California.

Thousand Oaks has served as host to the final stages of this international cycling race on several occasions. The Amgen Tour of California is the nation’s largest and most recognized cycling event. Thousand Oaks values collaboration with residents and businesses. This commitment to public-private partnerships is most evident in the adoption of the City’s blueprint for a revitalized downtown, the Thousand Oaks Boulevard Specific Plan. Some of the City’s most impressive accomplishments have come in the realm of infrastructure improvements. Public infrastructure enhances quality of life, and ensures the mobility of residents and businesses, now and in the future.

Thousand Oaks also strives to be a steward of the environment. Our efforts at local electricity generation have also been very successful, especially at our wastewater treatment plant. Thousand Oaks is a family-oriented community of 128,000, and the base of several thousand companies who provide over 70,000 jobs.

It is home to excellent schools, outstanding parks, and a myriad of shopping opportunities, including the largest auto mall in the nation. To learn more click here!
